The iPad Plan
I generally don’t like talking about things before they are done, since as a small company our plans and priorities can change rather suddenly. Plus, our development style is pretty experimental. We try a lot of things and end up throwing away most of them because they don’t end up working as well as we initially imagined.
That said, a lot of folks have been asking about our iPad plans and rather than continually responding with no comment, I figure I would just lay bare what we know right now (which isn’t a whole lot).
Are we working on an iPad version of HippoRemote?
Yes.
When will it be ready?
When we’re happy with it.
Will it be a universal app?
We haven’t decided. We’re not thinking about anything other than making an app we love using every day.
So there it is — our iPad Plan. It’s not much, but it’s all we have right now.
Thank you for the info. Are you open to suggestions? I plan on my first iPad as a coffeetable device used nearly exclusively as a remote for my htpc. Love to see movie info on pad while watching.

Good to hear it’s coming. One feature that would be nice would be some kind of app launcher/switcher for the Mac. We don’t need that much space for a trackpad, maybe the bottom half of the portrait mode. So why not fill the upper half with home screen-style icons for Mac apps, although not with as much wasted space as the iPad’s home screen? On the Mac side, something like Quicksilver or Launchbar to handle actual the app launching, triggered by key macros that Hipporemote would send if an icon is tapped.

I second that, we’ve not heard any mention of your iPad plans for a long time.
And I notice that general blog updates have gone quiet since August…..
Is anybody out there..

I like the software on the iPhone but on the iPad I would like to have all the different screns form the iPad version as one screen on the iPad. What I mean is I would like the keyboard and search function togheter with the other remote buttons for the mediacenter on the one and same screen.

Any update on the iPad version? I really don’t want to use someone else crappy solution, much rather spend my money on something I know is well developed and works well.

Great! I love hippo remote for everything from controlling my wifes iMac for iTunes, VLC and my laptop during presentations on IWBs.
An iPad will be awesome for conference presentations next year! Is there any possibility of having a small portion of my laptop screen visible from the app?
Looking forward to another great app from you guys

Have been waiting for a native iPad app for sometime, already own the iPhone app and I find it exceptional. Any chance you could let us know if the iPad app is in development, and whether we could expect it later this year perhaps?

Hello – please release the iPad version! I’m using the lite version on my iPhone and I’m holding out on buying PRO, hoping that the iPad version will be released soon.
I use my iPad as an all-in-one home theater control device, it works great to control DirecTV, and the one remaining piece is a good HTPC control interface. Hipporemote is by far the best HTPC control app that I’ve used but, like I said, I’m waiting to part with my money until the iPad version is out.
If you can confirm that it will be a universal app, I’ll drop some bones on the iPhone version now and upgrade later…

Also a pro purchaser, and wondering where the iPad version is that was discussed over a year and a half ago. Desperately waiting on it as I love the iPhone version and I’m beginning to think the iPad version is just vaporware, sorry but 2x view of an iPod version just is not cutting it. Also any plans to make an android version?

Another vote for the iPad version. I would gladly pay $10 for something like this. I am currently using HippoPro in a conference room with a custom remote to control everything from the TV to the FiOs cable to the Yamaha receiver. Plenty of non-techy people are able to pickup the iPod permanently on the conference table and use this remote. I would love to make it even better with a dedicated iPad!

Yes please! Serious gap in the market, and takes the ipad into home entertainment in a credible way. I can see at an apple event this app being used as an example as it expands the use of the ipad again. How’s it coming along?

Can you please at least post an update on the blog letting us know that you are at least “Still” working on this. At this moment it seems that we have had no news for a year and a half at this point. Granted we know your a small, and GREAT! developer and great things take time. We’ll wait, we would just love an update to make sure things are progressing at least.
Thanks for a great app and keep up the good work.
